DR Congo advance to AFCON2023 Semi-finals beating Guinea 3:1
Democratic Republic of Congo has advanced to the semi finals of the ongoing AFCON2023 tournament. The Congolese team beat Guinea today 3:1 to move on in the competition while Guinea waves goodbye to the competition. In the 20th minute, Mohamed Bayo successfully scored the opening goal after the referee awarded a penalty. Bayo skillfully placed the ball into the right side of the net, leaving goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi-Nzau with no chance to save it.
Shortly after, Chancel Mbemba, the captain of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) team, redeemed himself for his previous mistake by conceding the penalty. This time, Mbemba found himself at the receiving end of a Congolese attack and equalized the score in the 27th minute. Referee Mustapha Ghorbal once again had to point to the penalty spot, but this time it was in favor of DRC. Yoane Wissa was tripped inside the penalty box, and he took the responsibility to convert the penalty, giving his nation the lead for the first time in the game.
To add to DRC’s triumph, defender Arthur Masuaku scored a remarkable free-kick goal. Although it appeared that Masuaku intended to cross the ball into the box, the ball swerved past goalkeeper Ibrahim Kone and found the back of the net.
