Fisheries value chain drives Angola’s economy

The interconnection of the different sectors of the Angolan fisheries value chain is contributing to the sustainable development of the economy, according to the Secretary of State for Fisheries, Carlos Cordeiro.

Speaking at the opening of the Fisheries Value Chain workshop, the official said that the value chain integrates shipbuilding, participatory management, research and training in several areas of intervention.

The fishery product at the discharge points, he explained, includes dockers, women processors, weighing personnel, among other agents, who create jobs at the end of this value chain.

The minister explained that this process also integrates the sectors of Industry, Transport, Commerce, Agriculture, Interior and Defense, among others that produce goods, equipment and services.

Speaking about the results of the Fisheries Value Chain, under analysis at the meeting, he said that they will allow public decision-makers and managers of fishing companies to know the costs related to its various stages (sector value chain).

He added that the initiative will guarantee sustainable income growth, through understanding the process that ends in final consumption.

As part of the Production Support, Export Diversification and Import Replacement Program (Prodesi), the workshop aims to identify the segments of the fisheries value chain, to develop the Fisheries sub-sector.
