Herbert Wigwe, Access Bank Group CEO, dies in plane crash

A tragic helicopter crash in Southern California, USA, claimed the life of Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Bank Group, and five others, including his wife and son. The crash occurred around 10 p.m. near Nipton, California, as confirmed by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director general of the World Trade Organization, expressed her deep sorrow over the loss of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, his son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, in a heartfelt post on X.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated that the crash site was located east of the 15-Freeway, near Halloran Springs Road, and unfortunately, no survivors were found. The FAA, in collaboration with the National Transportation Safety Board, will conduct an investigation into the incident.

Reports indicate that the helicopter was en route to Las Vegas when the tragedy occurred near the border of Nevada and California.
