Join the Database of Cultural Centres in Africa: African Cities Cultural Vibrancy Index (ACCVI)

We are working on a comprehensive database that maps the cultural landscape in Africa. The Database, labelled the African Cities Cultural Vibrancy Index (ACCVI), will provide an assessment of African cities and the availability of infrastructure, activities and policies that support and promote Arts, Culture and Creativity.

The African Cities Cultural Vibrancy Index is funded by Africa No Filter and the British Council and is supported by the World Cities Culture Forum and the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture. Mapping will begin with the following 12 pilot cities in Africa: Accra, Cairo, Dakar, Dar-Es Salaam, Harare, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Lagos, Luanda, Marrakesh, Nairobi, and Tunis.

Ultimately, the Index will help cultural organisations and creatives in Africa in the following ways:

• Create visibility of organisations with audiences, funders and other key stakeholders.
• Help creatives, policy makers, cultural activists, administrators, funders and philanthropists across the Creative Economy sectors understand the reality for storytellers in Africa and the nature of support needed.
• Guide the branding and investment strategies for cities development.
• Accessibility to a wide spectrum of stakeholders across sectors and the continent.   
• Ensure effective communication with partnering organisations and other funders.
• We are in the process of collecting data from creative hubs, cultural venues, arts and culture support organisations, creative economy practitioners, and public and private sector organisations from the 12 pilot cities to be mapped as organisations that support storytellers.
