MTN partners with ATC Africa to improve wireless connectivity in Nigeria

MTN Nigeria and American Tower Corporation’s Africa operations (ATC Africa) have announced a new partnership that could improve wireless connectivity throughout Nigeria.

As per the deal, ATC Africa will start facilitating new leases for MTN Nigeria in the second half of 2024 and continue for several years. The Company anticipates using ATC Africa’s broad portfolio of over 8,000 sites in Nigeria—many of which already have green energy solutions—to satisfy MTN Nigeria’s site requirements. Furthermore, new sites will be implemented in compliance with the green site guidelines set forth by ATC Africa.

The development excited Marek Busfy, Senior Vice President and CEO of ATC Africa, who said, “We’re thrilled to further strengthen our partnership with MTN Nigeria.” The incremental lease-up on our current portfolio and the robust development pipeline that this agreement ensures, in our opinion, amply illustrates the unique value that ATC Africa can offer its clients through the quality of its assets, industry-leading build-to-suit capabilities, and best-in-class Power-as-a-Service and green site offerings.”

This agreement prioritizes sustainability and ethical business practices while taking a big step toward enhancing and growing cellular services in Nigeria. “We are setting the stage for a new era of connectivity in Nigeria through our partnership with ATC Africa, one that not only meets the growing demands of our customers but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility,” stated Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria.
