NCC trains 2000 youths from the six geopolitical zones on digital job creation
More than 2000 Nigerian teenagers from the country’s six geopolitical zones have been trained in digital job acquisition through an intervention program launched by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), with 600 youths now being trained.
According to a statement issued in Abuja by the NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Digital Job Creation for Youths (DJCY) is part of a program designed to enhance the skills of youths across Nigeria’s Six Geopolitical Zones through customised training and the provision of fully loaded laptop computers with networking devices to equip them for the purposes of engaging in various digital entrepreneurship businesses that they may choose.
Beneficiaries are given free housing for two weeks as resource persons in digital skills, business development, and management retool them with laptop computers to re-orient them toward self-discovery, self-improvement, and self-employment.
The DJCY’s goals include remolding youths with other skills with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficiency to fit into the digital economy, as well as strengthening technical and scientific competencies among youths in order to create opportunities for self-employment. It is also intended to promote access to ICT-enabled services like as banking and to develop the economy’s ICT micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.
DJCY is guided by the provisions of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), 2020-2030, which advocates the development of Digital Literacy and Skills through “massive training of Nigerians from all walks of life to enable them to obtain digital literacy and other digital skills.”
Hundreds of participants in the past two editions reported gainful self-employment while using the Commission’s computers and Internet connectivity equipment.
It is heartening to note that the Commission has received the Federal Government’s commendation, via the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Pantami, for the efficient and effective design and implementation of this program for the benefit of Nigerian youths.
The Commission reiterates its complete commitment to this initiative in light of the excellent response from previous editions and the potential it offers to improve the digital prospects for Nigerian youth for the benefit of the nation’s digital economy.
