Netflix slashes price of subscription plans in more than 30 countries

In more than 30 countries, Netflix has decreased the cost of its subscription plans. The major streaming service has lowered the cost in an effort to increase subscriber numbers. Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Iran, Kenya, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Venezuela, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines are just a few of the countries that have reduced the cost of the membership plans. Unfortunately, Nigeria is not currently on the list.

The Basic tier of the SVoD incumbent will have the greatest percentage drop across a wide range of geographies. Discounts for the basic tier will range from 20% to nearly 60% in these regions, which include Central and South America (CSA), Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), and the Asia Pacific (APAC), with the price reduction taking effect immediately for both new and existing subscribers, according to an Ampere analysis report.

Netflix’s official Twitter account posted about the price cut in Malaysia. Our Basic Plan in Malaysia is now RM28 per month for both new and existing users, the company announced.

After testing the feature in Latin America, Netflix previously expanded password sharing in nations like Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain. Password sharing will no longer be allowed, however users can still move their profiles.

Individuals who have an account can now quickly move their profile to a new account that they pay for, maintaining their stored games, My List, tailored recommendations, and watching history.

The same household can still readily access a new TV, such as one in a hotel or vacation rental, or stream Netflix on their own devices. Additionally, for an additional CAD$7.99 per month per person in Canada, NZD$7.99 in New Zealand, Euro 3.99 in Portugal, and Euro 5.99 in Spain, users with a Standard or Premium plan can add an extra member sub account for up to two people they do not live with, each with a profile, personalized recommendations, login, and password.

Members in a household with a Netflix account can select from a variety of packages with various features (see chart below). As always, we’ll make these new services better based on user input so that we can keep enhancing Netflix in the years to come, the business stated in a blog post.
