Nigeria Stock Market Gain N32.27 billion on Wednesday Trading Activities

The benchmark index of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX ASI) rose 0.11% to close at 49,475.43 points on Wednesday, the highest level since 15 September, as the bulls continued to rule Nigeria Stock Exchange with a gain of N32 billion in market capitalization

The market’s favorable performance was driven by persistent interest in Tier-1 banking stocks ZENITHBANK (+0.21%), GTCO (+1.85%), and FBNH (+3.74%), offsetting losses in ACCESSCORP (-0.58%) and GEREGU (-0.94%). As a result, the market capitalization increased by N32.27 billion to close at N26.95 trillion and the year-to-date (YTD) return increased to 15.82%.

With the value of transactions increasing by 389.87%, analysis of today’s market activity revealed that trade turnover settled higher than it had the previous session. In total, 2,992 transactions included 411.15 million shares worth N6.35 billion. With 245.33 million units traded, UPDCREIT (-1.59%) topped the volume charts, while GEREGU (-0.94%) topped the value charts with transactions totaling 2.63 billion.

At a ratio of 1.64 to 1, the market breadth closed in the positive, with more rising issues than declining ones. On the gainer’s log, UPL (+9.83%) outperformed seventeen (17) rivals, while JAPAULGOLD (-3.70%) led ten (10) rivals on the laggard’s table.
