Nigeria Stock Market Trading Activities on January 3, 2023: Markets starts with N187.90 billion gain
Nigerian stocks began the year on a positive note as the NGX All Share Index (ASI) increased by 1.89% to close at 51,595.66 points, the highest level since 22 July 2022. As a result, the market capitalization increased by N187.90 billion to close at N28.10 trillion, and the year-to-date (YTD) return was 0.67%.
A review of today’s market activity revealed that trade turnover was lower than it had been during the previous session, with a 40.86% decrease in transaction value. 4,122 transactions involving 321.67 million shares worth 4.35 billion pounds were completed. FBNH (+3.21%), which traded 207.62 million units for deals totaling $2.47 billion, topped both the volume and value charts. Gains in index heavyweight BUAFOODS (+10.00%) and Tier-1 banking names GTCO (+1.09%), FBNH (+3.21%), and ACCESSCORP (+3.53%) were the main contributors to the positive performance.
Positive market breadth was recorded at a ratio of 2.38 to 1, with more rising issues than declining ones. On the gainer’s log, BUAFOODS (+10.00%) was in first place among 18 other companies, while FCMB (-8.83%) was in first place among 7 other companies.
