Over 300 persons acquire skills to commence businesses – DEPOWA

The president of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Omobolanle Olonisakin, yesterday, said the association has empowered over 300 women and youths. These were assisted to acquire skills in different areas.

The president who was speaking during the graduation ceremony of the 5th batch of its trainees, comprising of 44 less privileged inclusive of 20 widows, added that the programme was geared towards empowering some of the widows of the country’s fallen heroes.

Mrs Olonisakin said: “We shall be graduating 44 students in different vocations, 20 of whom are widows. This is to keep faith with our sincere belief in the development of human capital in line with our objective of giving succour to the less privileged in society, with particular emphasis on the widows of our fallen heroes.”

Earlier, the representative of the Director General of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Association of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Mrs Eme Eto Andi, who commended the centre for empowering the 44 persons, added that it was the best option to eradicating poverty.
