President Tinubu Approves Leadership Changes In The Aviation and Aerospace Sectors

President Bola Tinubu has approved the suspension, removal, and replacement of the following Chief Executive Officers under the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development in keeping with his determination to bring world-class standards to Nigerian Civil Aviation in terms of consumer protection and the promotion of the wellbeing of Nigerian passengers and other sectoral stakeholders:

(1) Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku has taken over as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s substantive managing director, succeeding Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed, the organization’s managing director, who was removed from office.

(2) The substantive Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Umar Ahmed Farouk, has taken over for Mr. Tayib Adetunji Odunowo, who was the previous Managing Director of the agency.

(3) Mr. Alex Badeh Jr. has taken over as the substantive Director-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), succeeding Engr. Akinola Olateru, who was removed from office.

(4) Prof. Charles Anosike has taken over as the official Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), succeeding Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, who was removed from office.

(5) In compliance with Section 13(2) of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology Act, 2022, Capt. Alkali Mahmud Modibbo, the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), has been removed from office and replaced with Mr. Joseph Shaka Imalighwe as the Acting Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), pending the appointment of a substantive Rector.

(6) Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has been placed on administrative leave in order to give the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) full access to investigate the activities of the suspended Director-General and other high-ranking members of the NCAA. Capt. Chris Najomo takes over as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s Acting Director-General right away.

Additionally, President Bola Tinubu authorises the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development to begin a thorough recruitment process for a substantive vice-chancellor and other key officers of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU).

The President expects the new leadership in this crucial area to treat the security, comfort, and convenience of the Nigerian people as paramount and inviolable in all of their administrative actions. The President demands the immediate establishment of world-class policy design, implementation, and regulatory frameworks to reposition the industry in alignment with his Renewed Hope Agenda due to the high cost of underperformance in the sector.

The President’s orders listed above are all effective right now.
