Prices of Grains dip further on low market demand

The price of grains in the open market has maintained a continuous decline amid low demand in the space. Prices dipped by an average of 2% week-on-week across major grain commodities captured on the Exchange.

As a result, we saw a marginal decline by 2.33% in the AFEX Commodities Index (ACI), to close at 479.73 index points. However, the AEI was up 0.97%, closing the week at 195.65 index points.

Market Price Performance

  • Sorghum and cashew among other commodities listed on the Exchange recorded negative W-o-W.
  • Due to low influx buyers in the open market, grains prices declined week-on-week.
  • Higher exports of cocoa from major producing countries fell its international price.
