Soccer Legend and Football’s Greatest Of All Time, The Great Pele, is Dead
Soccer Legend, Tamar Pele, real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is dead. He died yesterday at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he had been battling with cancer
Over the course of a 21-year career, he is credited with scoring a world-record 1,281 goals in 1,363 games, including 77 goals in 92 international games.
Pele was selected as Fifa’s Player of the Century in 2000. Pele is the only player to have won the World Cup three times, taking home the trophy in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
When he assisted Brazil in winning the 1958 World Cup in Sweden at the age of 17, he rose to international fame. By the knockout rounds, he had forced his way into the starting lineup.
He scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Wales in the quarterfinals, three goals in a comeback victory over France in the semifinals, and two goals in a 5-2 victory over the hosts in the championship game.
Injury limited his participation in Brazil’s victory in 1962 in Chile, but eight years later, when Brazil constructed one of the greatest teams ever and won the Jules Rimet trophy in Mexico thanks to a 4-1 victory over Italy in which Pele scored the opening goal, he was named player of the tournament.
During a brilliant 18-year career with the club, Pele set the all-time goal scoring record for his local team and led them to two Copa Libertadores championships and six Brazilian league victories.
Pele served as a football ambassador after retiring. The FIFA Ballon d’Or Prix d’Honneur was given to him in 2013 in honor of his career and achievements, He was included in the Ballon d’Or Dream Team, an all-time best XI, in 2020.
Pele served as the Brazilian Extraordinary Minister of Sports from 1995 until 1998. To reduce the influence of football’s entrenched interests, he created laws. At the time, he took on the establishment in the interest of transparency and justice.
In addition to being formally recognized as a national treasure by the Brazilian government, Pelé is celebrated as a national hero in his home country of Brazil for his achievements and contributions to the game. He earned the titles “The King of Football” (O Rei do Futebol) and “The King Pelé” (O Rei Pelé) during his playing career.
In 1999, the IOC ( International Olympic Committee) named Pele the “athlete of the century” and in 2012, the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) named him Football’s GOAT – “greatest of all time”.
After retiring from soccer, he used his platform to promote charity causes and fight to better the conditions of the impoverished in Brazil. In 1994, he was appointed as a global UNESCO ambassador. He also authored numerous best-selling autobiographies, appeared in biographical documentaries, and published a number of them.
Kely Nascimento, his daughter, often posted updates on social media from the hospital to inform her followers of her father’s status.
She wrote: “On Thursday, I uploaded a photo of what seemed like Pele’s family’s hands on his body at the hospital. “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”
Santos, Pele’s old team, announced information about his funeral. His remains will be transported from the hospital to the club’s Estadio Urbano Caldeira on Monday morning, when the coffin will be positioned in the center of the field for mourners to pay their respects.
A private family burial will be attended on Tuesday by a parade through the streets of Santos in Sao Paulo. The Brazilian Government has declared three days of mourning for the King of Football while dignitaries from around the World, Clubs, football associations and soccer greats like Neymar have continued to pay tribute to the man who brought finesse, charisma, beauty and perfection to the beautiful game of football, Edson Arantes do Nascimentom, better known as King Tamar Pele,
