Super Eagles humble the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire 1:0
The Super Eagles of Nigeria today humbled the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire by a lone goal in their second group match. This victory gives Nigeria four points from two matches, same as Equatorial Guinea who had earlier defeated Guinea Bissau 4:1.
The goal was scored by William Troost-Ekong in the 55th minute of play through a penalty kick. Cote D’Ivoire had better ball possession, 63%, with 3 shots on target and 10 off target but could not convert them to goals as the Nigerian defence frustrated their game plan.
The third and last group games will decide who qualifies and Nigeria must beat Guinea Bissau to stay in the competition, except Equatorial Guinea defeats or draws with Cote D’Ivoire. On the other hand, Cote D’Ivoire (with three points) must beat Equitaroial Guinea, the current group A leaders, if they must progress in the Afcon2023 competition.
Guinea Bissau currently sits at the bottom of the group with zero point and have become the weeping team. They lost to Cote D’Ivoire 0:2 and to Equatorial Guinea 2:4.
