Senator Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation, stated, “First and foremost, I would like to thank the audience for their consistent positive and encouraging response to ‘Our Africa by Merck Foundation.'” We’ve also had a fantastic response on social media from people all across the world, which is incredibly encouraging and makes me very happy. The seventh episode of the TV show focuses on the global coronavirus pandemic that has been ongoing for over two years. We have all seen changes in our lives as a result of the pandemic. As a result, this episode promotes Coronavirus Health Awareness. Through this episode, we also attempted to highlight the social impact of the pandemic on our communities.

Through ‘Our Africa by Merck Foundation’ our mission is to promote awareness, be the voice of the voiceless and break the silence about various social and health issues in Africa through ‘Fashion and Art with purpose’. I believe that media, fashion, and art can raise awareness about issues such as Diabetes Awareness, Breaking Infertility Stigma, Ending Child Marriage, Stopping FGM, Stopping GBV, Supporting Girl Education, and Women Empowerment, among other social and health issues affecting the continent. Senator Rasha continued, “Together, we can create a culture shift.

Gabriel Froid and Kinneh Mbenga, two young designers from Mauritius and The Gambia, were featured in the seventh episode. This episode also included Cwezi, a prominent Ghanaian artist, and Teenusha Soobrah, a Nutritionist from Mauritius.

The show also includes “My White Army,” a pan-African song produced and directed by Senator Rasha Kelej as her personal contribution to thank the doctors and nurses fighting on the front lines of the coronavirus battle, who risk exposure to the virus so that everyone else can stay at home and stay healthy. The song, which features singers from 11 African countries and is performed in three languages: Arabic, English, and French, has received widespread acclaim across the continent.

I am very delighted to have coordinated, directed, and produced this song as a show of support across 11 African countries by 11 amazing vocalists in three languages: Arabic, English, and French. They have incredible vocals and come from countries in North, South, East, and West Africa. This coordination was quite challenging, especially during the lockdown, but they were all extremely cooperative, and we were able to create a great and heartwarming song.” Rasha Kelej, a senator, explained.

The Merck Foundation collaborated with African First Ladies to help thousands of women and casual workers afflicted by the Coronavirus outbreak. The Foundation established the Coronavirus Response Program to increase healthcare capacity by offering one-year Online Diplomas and two-year Master Degrees in Respiratory Medicine, Emergency and Resuscitation Medicine, Acute Medicine, Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, and Critical Care to African doctors. Through its Coronavirus Response Program, the Merck Foundation has granted 144 scholarships to doctors from over 23 countries.

The Merck Foundation also announced the “Stay at Home” and “Mask Up with Care” Media Recognition Awards for the media, as well as the “Make Your Own Mask” Fashion Awards for the fashion community, with the goal of separating facts from myths and misconceptions, raising awareness on how to adapt best protection measures such as wearing your masks to show you care and love your family and community; encouraging your community to choose to vaccinate and sensitizing them to support healthcare workers w Merck Foundation created an inspiring storybook “Make the Right Choice” in collaboration with African First Ladies to alert children and youth to the pandemic.
