2022 Year in Review in Sub-Saharan Africa released by Meta highlighting key African milestones
Meta today announced its 2022 Africa Year in Review which highlights some of the company’s activities and investments in Sub-Saharan Africa in the areas of innovation, support for SMBs and Creators, and community-building work. This shows Meta’s ongoing achievements and triumphs around the area and reinforces its ongoing investment in and commitment to Africa with an infographic and brief movie.

Facebook Reels – To assist creators in monetizing their works, connecting with, and locating new audiences in News Feed and Groups, Facebook Reels was introduced in 20 Sub-Saharan African nations.
StaySafeOnInstagram in Ghana and Nigeria – Unveiled an education campaign aimed at enabling users to take steps to protect their accounts from phishing and hacking.
Facebook Protect – Rolled out Facebook Protect in Mauritius and South Africa, a program designed to provide increased protections for journalists, activists, and human rights defenders worldwide.
Economic Impact Trainings: Through Meta’s Economic and Social Impact Programs, including Meta Boost, SheMeansBusiness, and Meta Nonprofit Training Program, over 107,000 SMBs and Non-profits in Sub-Saharan Africa were trained.
WhatsApp’s first-ever global brand partnership Giannis Antetokounmpo, an NBA All-Star who is of Nigerian descent, launched WhatsApp’s first-ever global brand relationship, which included the short film “Naija Odyssey”
“Future Africa: Telling Stories, Building Worlds.” The six finalists of the competition to promote the use of virtual reality in African storytelling have been revealed in partnership with Africa No Filter.
#ReelAdventures was created to highlight adventure-focused groups in Kenya that use reels to express themselves and share their travel experiences.

Digital Literacy Trainings: ‘My Digital World,’ Meta’s flagship digital literacy program, has trained over 80,000 participants (youth, educators, and the general public) for responsible and safe use of digital platforms in over 9 countries.
