Apply for the FAO International Year of Millets Photo Contest for professional & amateur photographer
Are you a professional or hobbyist photographer, or are you simply interested in millets? Do you grow, process, or market millets, and are you prepared to share your knowledge? Participate in the 2023 International Year of Millets Photo Contest (IYM) to help spread the word about the many benefits of millets, including their diversity, the range of healthful recipes they can generate, their ability to flourish in arid environments, and their market potential.
Your photograph should depict one or more of the following:
- Millets can help combat hunger and contribute to food security;
- millets are climate-resilient; millets are tasty and can help contribute to a balanced diet;
- millets may help fight hunger and contribute to food security; millets are climate-resilient;
- Millets offer good and promising livelihood opportunities for small-scale farmers and SMEs for post-harvest and processing services
- Millets provide promising post-harvest and processing options for small-scale farmers and small and medium-sized businesses.
- Millets have a long history and can be used in a variety of creative ways.
Requirements
- Participants must be at least 18 years old.
- By completing and submitting the registration form, each participant can submit up to five images.Each photo must be submitted separately using the form.
- Participants must own the rights to the images and have taken them themselves. The images must have been taken within the five-year period before the contest deadline (e.g., after October 1, 2018).
- Each photograph submitted must have a title and a short description/caption explaining what the photo represents, taking into account one or more of the aspects specified, as well as where/when the photograph was taken (max. 150 words).
- Participants are encouraged to share their images on social media using the #IYM2023 #YearofMillets hashtags and tagging @FAO.
- Photographs should be in.jpeg format. Images should be of excellent quality (300 dpi and 5000 pixels, with a file size of no more than 2 MB). Images in color and/or black and white will be considered.
- The material must not violate or infringe on the rights of third parties, including but not limited to trademark, privacy, publicity, and other intellectual property rights, or constitute copyright infringement.
Dates, texts, brand names, logos, or trademarks must not be included in the application.
The IYM Secretariat respects the rights of photographers and does not claim ownership of photographs submitted to this contest. Each entry is fully owned by the author. The author will be thanked whenever the photograph is used by FAO.
Prizes
- The photo contest winner will be invited to the official closing ceremony of the International Year of Millets in 2024. According to FAO standards, the winner’s travel expenses will be compensated.
- The winners will be revealed on the website of the International Year of Millets in early December 2023.
Winners will be promoted on FAO social media, as well as by FAO offices worldwide and partner websites. - Each of the five winners will get a certificate of honor as well as a surprise gift bag.
- If any of the selected winner(s) of any prize (who is/are ineligible in accordance with these Contest rules and/or the General Rules, Copyright and Privacy) cannot be traced or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and FAO will have sole discretion to award the prize to another eligible entry.
- Only the first and last name of the winner will be released when the winning images are published. There will be no further personal information about the candidates published or shared.
The Competition
Step 1: Select up to 5 of your own photographs and write captions for them.
Step 2: Fill out and submit the registration form for each photo before October 31, 2023.
Step 3: Upload your images on social media using the hashtags #IYM2023 and #YearOfMillets and tag @FAO.
Step 4: Check back to see who the winners are!
