Earth Journalism Network Climate Change Media Partnership Reporting Fellowships 2023 to COP28  (Fully Funded to UAE, Dubai)

The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) reporting fellowship program has been announced by the Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP), which is co-founded by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and the Stanley Center for Peace and Security.

The conference, which is being hosted this year by the United Arab Emirates, is slated to take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023. Since its founding in 2007, the CCMP has sent more than 400 journalists from low- and middle-income countries to cover the yearly UN climate negotiations. The program is currently in its 16th incarnation. As a result, journalists from throughout the world have been able to report on the climate negotiations for their own audiences.

The CCMP Reporting Fellowship seeks to send up to 20 reporters from low- and middle-income nations to cover COP28 in person this year. Additionally, this year’s CCMP organizers will provide 10 virtual fellowships, with positions available for up to five journalists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and up to five journalists from the Lower Mekong region in two different cohorts. Each cohort will receive specialized media training from a media trainer based in Dubai. Journalists will be asked to identify in their application which Fellowship track they are most interested in.

Eligibility  

The applicant must: in order to be eligible for the In-person Fellowship track. Report from a low- or no-fee source while being a professional journalist for or on behalf of an established media outlet.

For the Virtual Fellowship track, the applicant must: A list of the nations that qualify may be seen here. You must be a qualified journalist working for a recognized media outlet and based in one of the lower- or middle-income MENA or Mekong countries. If a candidate wants to be considered for any Fellowship track, they must: know how to speak and write English well. Have prior experience covering climate change topics, and specify the types of conference-related stories you might pursue. Ensure that you will take part in all Fellowship events.

You should enclose a letter of endorsement from an editor, producer, or supervisor from a reputable media source, stating that your news reports will be printed or transmitted there. Freelancers are encouraged to apply, but they must submit a letter of recommendation from the media source they want to report for. Give examples of recent, current, and journalistic work on subjects related to climate change. These samples may be uploaded as papers or online links. Any language may be used for stories as long as a brief summary in English is included. Clips must center on issues related to climate change.

Benefits Track logistics for in-person fellowships CCMP For the length of the UN climate negotiations, In-Person Fellows will travel to Dubai, with arrival scheduled for November 28, 2023, and departure scheduled for December 14, 2023. The non-refundable fees for ground transportation, lodging, meals, and travel insurance associated with the Fellowship are covered by the CCMP. Additionally, organizers will help with the logistics of the trip and the press accreditation procedure. Please be aware that the Fellow is solely responsible for the process of getting the necessary visas; however, the CCMP will cover the cost of the visas.

Logistics for virtual fellowships From 30 November to 13 December 2023, there will be a virtual fellowship program. A media trainer who will be present in Dubai will assist the virtual fellows. Virtual Fellowships will involve a variety of online activities, most of which will be carried out through Zoom, such as: regular one-on-one and group discussions with trainers about the most recent COP news. assistance with accessing materials and live-streamed events related to the COP. interviews with authorities or other professionals in groups. help in sourcing and scheduling interviews. editing assistance and mentoring for story development. possible prospects for networking online.
