Edo State to Host the 2024 Nigeria Rugby Football Federation League and Congress
The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has chosen Edo State as the host for the 2024 National League in the South South Zone. This decision holds great significance for Edo State, known as the “Heart Beat of Nigeria,” as it prepares to welcome teams from the South South region.
The participating teams from Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Edo will compete for the zonal title and a chance to advance to the national Super Six finals. This regional league is part of a larger competition that spans Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The Edo State Rugby Association has graciously accepted the opportunity to host this prestigious event, which is expected to boost the sport’s profile and development within the state.
NRFF President Dr. Ademola Are commended the chairman of the Edo State Rugby Association, Comrade Sunny Osayande, and his vice chairman, Mr. Asuen Marcel, for their unwavering support and dedication to the growth of rugby in Edo.
Dr. Are also commended the state for having five of its players represent the national team in the recent African Games held in Ghana.During his visit, Dr. Are interacted with various stakeholders in Edo at all levels, reaffirming the NRFF’s dedication to promoting sports in the state.
In the South West, 5 Clubs from Lagos and 1 from Ogun State will compete for the Cup, showcasing the NRFF’s strategic approach to expanding rugby throughout Nigeria.
