Enter the Wiki Loves Africa Competition 2022 ($6,000 plus Prizes)

Wiki Loves Africa is an annual contest where anyone across Africa can contribute media that relates to that year’s theme to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Wiki Loves Africa encourages participants to contribute media (photographs, video and audio) that illustrate the specific theme for that year. Each year the theme changes. Each year’s theme is chosen by the community to be a universal, visually-rich and culturally-specific topics (for example, markets, rites of passage, festivals, public art, cuisine, natural history, urbanity, daily life, notable persons, etc).

When is the competition open ?

ENTER NOW! The 2022 competition closes on 15th April 2022.

What should we contribute ? Pictures! Audio! Videos!

The theme Home and Habitat calls for the submission of visual representations of homehabitat. The theme celebrates the diversity and unique spaces and places both humans and animals alike consider home. Those quarters, lodgings, rooms, addresses, locations, dens, nests, burrows and caves. Those places of safety and peace where people and animals can relax, recover, rest, reconnect with family and community, and where they can fully express themselves, their tastes, their identity and heritage.

More on the 2022 theme…

The theme for the 2022 contest is Home and Habitat.

Homes come in all shapes and sizes. They reflect our deep-seated identity, interconnections to our community and economic reality. They display our traditional roots, our aesthetic choices and our aspirations. >> Read more about the theme and get inspiration here.

The winners will not be selected until May-June 2022. Every year, there is a rigorous process involving three stages that makes sure that only the very best of the best are selected as the International Prize Winners. Review the Jury Process on the 2021 International Jury page.

Each year it is a tough choice to choose the final winning images. The 2022 winners will not be announced until July/August 2022, but there are many beautiful winning photos that have been selected over the last 7 years! View all the winners from previous Wiki Loves Africa!

While the International Jury process is active, National Winners are usually announced by the country teams. There are prizes for incredible photos being awarded via this process. Check out the 2021 National Winners here!!
