Huawei Cloud To Grant 100 Nigeria Startups $10M Worth of Cloud Credits

Huawei Cloud has announced its commitment to supporting 100 Nigerian startups by granting them cloud credits worth $10 million over a two-year period. This initiative aims to empower these startups to innovate and grow on Huawei Cloud. The announcement was made at the Huawei Cloud Startup Summit in Lagos, where startups from Nigeria’s tech ecosystem were hosted.

As part of this program, participating startups will have access to cloud credits of up to $150,000 each. They will also become part of a global cloud ecosystem that exposes their businesses to potential clients and investors in 177 countries.

During the summit, Hugo Hu, Director of Huawei Cloud, delivered a keynote speech in which he called on Nigerian startups to collaborate and shape the future of the country’s digital economy. He emphasized the challenges faced by startups, such as technology, funding, data security, and compliance, and highlighted the importance of embracing the cloud for accelerating innovation.

Huawei Cloud aims to provide an ecological platform for Nigerian startups, offering them cost-effective cloud resources and faster access to business opportunities. Through its startup program, the company will provide cloud-native infrastructure, professional services, and up to $150,000 in cloud credits to each participating startup. This investment is expected to reduce the cost of cloud services by 40 percent for startups in Nigeria and expand their reach to potential clients and investors worldwide.

Dotun Adekunle, Senior Vice President of Flutterwave, emphasized the significance of cloud services in enabling companies to compete globally. Adekunle emphasized that Flutterwave’s efficiency heavily relies on being on the cloud.

Huawei Cloud has set a target to bring 10,000 startups on board globally by 2025. Currently, the platform has successfully integrated more than 3,000 startups, with a significant number originating from Africa.

As per Paul Adigu, the Ecosystem Director of Huawei Cloud Nigeria, the startup program will focus on three main initiatives to achieve its objectives: utilizing an advanced cloud platform, developing startup talent, and providing essential business resources.

The ultimate goal of Huawei Cloud is to establish a solid cloud infrastructure for an intelligent world. By 2024, the company plans to introduce a local cloud in Nigeria and has already set up 88 Availability Zones across 30 regions worldwide.
