Microsoft to launch Biz4Afrika SME hub for Nigeria

Microsoft, the global IT giant is on the verge of launching its Biz4Afrika SME hub for Nigeria. Disclosing this in Lagos during an interactive session with members of BNI Nigeria, Mr. David Aiyeola, Project Manager Nigeria, Thinkroom Consulting, Microsoft Biz4afrika initiative, stated that the platform is meant to give the SMEs local, national, regional and global presence through the enhanced market platform. He further explained that hub has been active in South Africa and Kenya since 2013.

The Biz4Afrika SME Hub is a key element of Microsoft’s 4Afrika commitment to bring 2 million African SMEs online within the next three years. The project is Microsoft’s core contribution in developing the African continent, businesses and employment. Besides the Biz4Afrika SME Hub, Microsoft is availing businesses and startups in the SME space in Nigeria a three year free access to its Bizspark platform including its popular Azure program for developers and ICT professionals.

SMEs play a significant role in the economic development of any Nation. They are presently estimated to be over 34 million in Nigeria. In the United States for instance, it is estimated that over 90% of exports are done by SMEs and largely account for employment in that country. Realizing this importance, the Federal Government of Nigeria had established the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria – SMEDAN while the administration of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan set up the YOUWIN program to empower SMEs.

SMEs who register early on the biz4Afrika platform stand the chance of being positioned to be service providers and taking advantage of “first market movers”.
