Nigeria passes resolution calling for 15 years moratorium on donkey slaughter for export
Nigeria passed a resolution on May 5, 2023, calling for a moratorium on donkey slaughter for the export of skins from Africa.
This promise is made in light of the December 2023 Pan-African Donkey Conference’s determination to outlaw the trade in donkey skins for at least the next fifteen years. To ensure the resolution’s successful implementation, AU-IBAR works closely with institutions like as Brooke East Africa and African member nations.
Nigeria’s willingness to promote the moratorium is a critical step toward preserving these delicate creatures from brutality and exploitation. This was excellent news ahead of World Donkey Day 2023, which fell on May 8th.
