Nigeria plays a draw with Equatorial Guinea in first group match of AFCON 2024
The Super Eagles of Nigeria had to rally from behind to end their First group match on a 1:1 draw with Equatorial Guinea. Equatorial Guinea then took the lead in the 36th minute, despite the flow of the game, as Iban Salvador skillfully placed the ball into the bottom corner from 13 yards out. Nigeria quickly equalized less than two minutes later, with Ademola Lookman providing a perfect cross for Osimhen to score from close range.
Osimhen missed another good opportunity early in the second half, causing frustration for Jose Peseiro’s team. Aina came close to scoring, but Jesus Owono made a brilliant save. The Super Eagles continued to push for a winning goal, supported by their passionate fans. Osimhen was left disappointed after missing a golden chance with 14 minutes remaining, despite cleverly beating the offside trap.
In the first match of the competition played yesterday, the tournament hosts, Cote D’Ivoire beat Guinea Bissau by two goals to zero. The super eagles match group match is on Thursday January 18 against the Elephants of Cote D’ivoire.
