NIRA conducts .ng Reseller Training Program for Entrepreneurs

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association, NIRA, on Wednesday May 16, 2018, conducted an intensive .ng reseller training program for entrepreneurs. The program which held at NIRA Academy and Resource Centre in Iponri, Lagos, attracted over 35 entrepreneurs drawn from the ICT, web development, ecommerce and marketing sectors. Some of the companies that attended the training include Constantwebs.com, Dobizness.com, Alfaserve Limited, Automatic Pallete, including students from the Lagos City Computer College, Ikeja.

 

The course content covered such areas as entrepreneurship program, opportunities in the .ng domain registration business, domain policy, reseller partnership strategies, marketing and registration, reseller packages and three practical hands on sessions conducted by some of the top domain registrars in Nigeria namely Whogohost, QServers, Certaspace and Upperlink Limited.

 

.Ng is the critical national resource of Nigeria. It is Nigeria’s unique identity on the World Wide Web. NIRA is the registry for .ng internet Domain Names which maintains database of the names registered in the .ng country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) name space in the public interest of Nigeria and the global internet community.

 

NIRA was established on March 28, 2006 when stakeholders adopted its constitution. The transfer of the appropriate management of the .ng National Resource to NIRA was coordinated by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Thereafter, NIRA was registered as the incorporated Trustee on February 9, 2007.

 

At the moment, NIRA has 10 Second Level Domains (SLDs) and they are .com.mg, .org.ng, .mobi.ng. sch.ng, edu.ng, .gov.ng, .mil.ng, .name.ng, .i.ng and .net.ng and are classified as either closed or open Second Level Domains (SLD).

 

The 35 trained resellers were all awarded certificates of attendance. This training is part of the series of trainings being run by NIRA to promote the .Ng Domain, ICT and Entrepreneurship in the country. One of program conducted earlier in March was an intensive training on Web Design using WordPress.

 

NiRA Academy and Resource Center was established in November 2014 to operate as one of the Special Purpose Vehicle of NiRA. With the development of capacity building within the DNS Industry in mind, NiRA Academy has organized several trainings, including the IPv6 Training in collaboration with AFRNIC and University of Ibadan.

As a valued partner in AFRINIC’s new certi::6 programme, NiRA Academy will administer certification exams locally in Nigeria enabling engineers to complete their certification within one week.

 

Concluding the program, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mrs. Edith Udeagu, said that the various trainings are part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of NIRA. Other programs in the scheme, she said, include the basic networking and internet technology workshop, website design and maintenance workshop and the media college.
