Startupgrind Lagos hosts Audu Maikori of Chocolate City fame
Startupgrind Lagos held its first monthly event of 2017 on Saturday January 28 and hosted Audu Maikori, former President of Chocolate City. The event anchored by Uwem Uwemakpan, chapter director of the Lagos Chapter, had in attendance over 50 entrepreneurs.
The guest, Audu Maikori, shared his startup and business experience as well as his failures and success. The event climaxed with an open networking session.
Audu Maikori, is a Nigerian lawyer, entrepreneur, social activist, Creative Industry Professional and public speaker. He is founder and former president of the Chocolate City Entertainment. He is best known as a judge of Nigerian Idol’s first season. He won multiple awards during his career, including the International Young Music Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2007. Other awards he has received include Entertainment Executive of the year 2011 by the Nigerian Entertainment Award (NEA), Award for outstanding award in Music and Entertainment by the National Youth Merit Awards 2011, Young Entrepreneur of the Year (2011) – Diaspora Professionals Award 2011, Mentor of the Year – 2010- Enterprise Foundation), Creative Entrepreneur of the Year for Music – 2011- CIAN, Winner – African Awards for Entrepreneurship 2011, Entertainment Executive of the Year – 2012- Nigerian Reunion Corporation, SME Leader Award- 2014 by Fidelity Bank, etc.

In December 2012 her company launched the City of Lagos Edition of Monopoly, the first African city edition of Hasbro’s world famous board game. Subsequently, the Nigerian Centenary Edition of Monopoly was launched in February 2014. The Match edition will feature Chris Kwekowe of Slatecube. Chris is a young MIT/Harvard trained innovative Ed-Tech entrepreneur from Nigeria. He’s passionate about technology and the average African youth. His venture, Slatecube, aims at developing young African talents into world class professionals for today’s distributed workforce. He’s shared this model with the likes of US President Barack Obama and Bill Gates.
