UNDP/UNITAR Advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy Training for African women entrepreneurs in Africa

The UNITAR Division for Prosperity invites women entrepreneurs, business leaders, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from three Sub-Saharan African Regional Economic Communities to apply for the Advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment 2023 Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy Training Programme. Women from West, Central, and Southern Africa (ECOWAS, ECCAS, and SADC) are welcome to apply.

The Advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment training program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and financial management. It aims to encourage their desire to learn and contribute to the progress of their communities. The seven-week program will begin in August 2023 and will be given in both English and French.

This 7-week online course will be delivered via an interactive mobile application that allows for self-paced study and will cover entrepreneurial and financial literacy modules. In addition to self-paced online courses, students will participate in peer-to-peer discussions and tasks.
N.B The course duration is subject to change.

This Advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment program will be presented in both English and French.
Participants who complete and meet the minimal Criteria will receive a Certificate of Completion from UNITAR and UNDP.

Objectives of Learning

By the completion of the curriculum, students will be able to:

Outline the current opportunities and obstacles in advancing gender equality, with a focus on entrepreneurship.
Recognize the entrepreneurial process of recognizing possibilities and mobilizing resources to launch a new venture.
Use tools and approaches to develop desirable, practicable, viable, and long-term solutions to client needs and challenges.
Create a business model that is appropriate for their enterprise and client segment(s), as well as revenue models that capture value in all forms.
Use accounting and financial management tools and strategies to keep track of their finances and make informed business decisions that lead to long-term success and growth.
Create financial and risk-aversion strategies for your company.

Requirements for Eligibility Advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment

Each member country will pick approximately 10-15 individuals to participate in the program. Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

women between the ages of 18 and 45 who are established or aspiring entrepreneurs with a solid entrepreneurial idea or initiative and a strong interest in entrepreneurship and financial literacy keen passion and motivation to learn and contribute to society and country commitment to actively participate in the program for its entire duration, including webinars

Applicants must have a computer (desktop, laptop, or smartphone) and solid oral and writing communication skills in English or French for the duration of the program. Women entrepreneurs from the following countries may apply to the program: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, The Gambia, Togo, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
