UNESCO International Literacy Prizes 2023 for Innovation in Literacy now Open

The UNESCO International Literacy Prizes have opened for applications for the 2023 edition. It wants all literacy education specialists to apply and urges nominating groups to promote individuals from all across the world.

Six awards, like in previous editions, will be given to individuals or organizations for excellent efforts that encourage literacy learning. The subject for this year’s programs is “Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Laying the groundwork for peaceful and sustainable societies.

The theme underlines the importance of literacy in enabling individuals and communities to adapt and develop peaceful and sustainable societies, particularly during times of change and social, economic, and environmental issues.

For more than 50 years, the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes have recognized brilliance and innovation in the field of literacy. Over 512 initiatives and programs from around the world have been recognized and funded for their outstanding contributions in this field to date.

Requirements

All governments, non-governmental organizations, and individuals who contribute to the development and growth of literacy learning through projects and programs are eligible to apply.
Applications should be made to the nominating bodies, which are either the National Commission for UNESCO in the nation of the program or a non-governmental organization (NGO) in official cooperation with UNESCO, who are encouraged to submit the nominated individuals, institutions, and organizations to UNESCO. Based on the selection criteria, the nominations will be evaluated by an impartial International Jury of five experts.
The Director-General of UNESCO will select the finalists to be honored on the occasion of International Literacy Day on September 8, 2023, based on the recommendations of the International Jury.

The application deadline is:

Candidates must submit applications to nominating bodies by June 28, 2023 (midnight, Paris time).
Nominating entities must submit their submissions to UNESCO by July 12, 2023 (midnight, Paris time).For More Information:
