As of December 2022, MTN has amassed an impressive 20 million monthly active users in collaboration with ayoba, Africa’s Super App. Comparing this to the 10 million monthly active users reported at the same time last year, there has been a 100% increase.

Ayoba is accessible everywhere, with an emphasis on Africa. Ayoba has a significant presence across Africa thanks to MTN’s presence in key markets like Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Uganda, and The Republic of Congo.
When ayoba won “Top Innovative Technology and Telecom Product of the Year” at the Ghana National Communications Awards in November 2022, it also made recent headlines.

All of Ayoba’s verticals have experienced tremendous growth this year. The music streaming service is leading the pace with its emphasis on local content and growth in streams of 174% in 2022. Our customers engaged with 225 million cards over 150 channels on a range of subjects, with updates on football, tech and entertainment news, food and fashion, rugby, and other sports receiving the most attention.
Influencer Muriel Blanche and Adamant Media, who specialize in francophone humour, spearheaded our French-language programming. We introduced three new Arabic channels in 2022 to expand the material available for markets like Sudan, including topics like entrepreneurship, football, and other topics.
Games saw a 208% increase in plays in December 2022, messaging saw a 125% increase in messages sent, and microapps saw a 322% increase (sessions). 85 million stories were submitted by Ayoba users informing friends and family on their whereabouts and interests.
Ayoba is a network-neutral application created as part of a partnership with MTN. Users of ayoba get daily data for free in participating marketplaces. The system is a component of MTN’s Ambition 2025 plan, which seeks to reach 100 million monthly active customers by 2025.
