Jose Mourinho, “The Special One”, leaves Roma as Contract is terminated

Jose Mourinho has been relieved of his duties as the manager of Roma and has been replaced by the club’s former captain, Daniele de Rossi. Mourinho, who took charge in May 2021, achieved success by winning the Europa Conference League title and reaching the Europa League final in 2023.

However, Roma’s performance in Serie A has been disappointing, as they currently sit in ninth place, five points away from the Champions League qualification spots. Additionally, they were recently eliminated from the Coppa Italia by their city rivals, Lazio. As a result, the decision has been made to appoint former midfielder De Rossi as the interim manager until the end of the season.

Mourinho’s tenure at Roma started on a high note with their victory in the 2022 Conference League, which marked the club’s first major European title. This success garnered immense support from the fans. However, their defeat to Sevilla in last season’s Europa League final, followed by a poor start to the current campaign, led to a decline in performance. Roma only managed to secure five points from their first six Serie A matches, leaving them in 16th place.

Despite the team’s struggles, Mourinho had previously turned down tempting offers to leave the club last summer. However, his dismissal became inevitable after receiving a red card in the loss against Lazio and suffering a 3-1 defeat to AC Milan. These results left Roma trailing behind fourth-placed Fiorentina by five points in the league standings. Mourinho’s contract was originally set to expire at the end of the current season.
