Now Open: UNICEF/IKEA/Tony Elumelu Foundation Be Green Africa for young African Green Entrepreneurs
In collaboration with UNICEF Generation Unlimited (GenU) and the IKEA Foundation, the Tony Elumelu Foundation develops a first-of-its-kind Be Green Africa Entrepreneurship Programme to solve African youth unemployment.
The BeGreen Africa application portal is now open on TEFConnect, the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s digital platform, to all waste management and green start-ups in Kenya, as well as green start-ups in Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa.
BeGreen Africa is a pilot program for green business co-created by The Tony Elumelu Foundation, UNICEF Generation Unlimited (GenU), IKEA Foundation, and young green entrepreneurs.
The primary goal of this mission-aligned partnership is to establish a holistic, sustainable, and youth-led green entrepreneurship initiative in the waste sector [in Kenya] and the green sector [in Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, and South Africa], in order to advance marginalized youth’s social and economic prosperity while addressing the triple planetary crisis by reducing inequalities and creating sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their peers.
Requirements
In this pilot, #BeGreenAfrica seeks to train 1,000 Kenyan youth in waste management and economically empower 120 of them, as well as to empower 25 green sector entrepreneurs under the age of 35 in Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa with new or existing green enterprises.
The effort will generate evidence about youth entrepreneurship in high-impact green industries, as well as investigate how young entrepreneurs may contribute to circular economies and a long-term green revolution in Africa.
