On Ecobank Day 2023, the bank focuses on the acquisition of digital skills by Africa’s children and youth
Last Saturday, October 21, 2023, the Ecobank Group (http://www.Ecobank.com), the top pan-African banking organization, celebrated the 10th anniversary of Ecobank Day, its signature social impact event. To commemorate the anniversary, Ecobank created a three-year program called “Transforming Africa Through Education,” which it focused on in the beginning by giving children and teenagers the digital skills they’ll need for jobs in the future.
CEO of Ecobank Group Jeremy Awori stated: “Ecobank Day reflects the charitable nature of all 14,000 Ecobankers across the Group. It has provided us with the chance to demonstrate our dedication to having a good impact on the areas we serve for the past ten years.
This year, we concentrate on digital education since it is essential for Africa to advance quickly. Ecobank has been on a digitalization path for a while now in line with our strong belief in the transformative potential of digital technology for a more equitable future in Africa. It only makes sense that, in honor of Ecobank Day, we have supplied the infrastructure and sponsored the beginning of a number of training programs aimed at providing basic digital education to young people in Africa.
In advance of Ecobank Day celebrations, the Ecobank Foundation organized a webinar titled “Igniting Africa’s Digital Future through the Power of Coding” in collaboration with the Global Partnership for Education and UN Women.
Over a thousand people joined the well-attended webinar, which featured experts and young people talking about how important it is to give all African children and youth access to digital skills, primarily coding and programming, which are necessary for future employment and a happy life. Since 2013, Ecobank Day has contributed to a variety of causes. These have included Orphanages (2018), Cancer (2019), Diabetes (2020), Mental health (2021), Financial literacy and financial inclusion (2022), and Education for Young People in Africa (2013). They have also included Malaria prevention and control (2014), Every African Child Deserves a Better Future (2015), ICT education in schools and improving maternal health (2016), Safe Water Management (2017), and Education for Young People in Africa (2013).
