Unity Bank Partners With Skillpaddy To Train 1,000 Female Software Engineers
Unity Bank Plc has joined forces with SkillPaddy for its “Count Her In” tech Programme, which aims to empower over 1,000 female beneficiaries through Software Engineering Training. This initiative focuses on bridging the talent gap in the IT industry while helping individuals achieve their training goals and launch successful careers in technology.
As part of the activities commemorating International Women’s Day 2024, Unity Bank will fully sponsor approximately 40 young girls in this special training initiative. The goal is to increase women’s participation in the tech industry, as they currently make up only 33% of the workforce globally. By delivering a sustainable and impactful program, this partnership aims to address gender disparity and promote inclusion within the tech industry.
All program beneficiaries will receive comprehensive training in various aspects of software development. They will also be provided with mentorship and resources to support their success, including the development of essential life skills such as critical thinking, communication, innovation, and problem-solving.
Mrs. Tomi Somefun, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Unity Bank Plc, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership. She emphasized that this initiative aligns with the theme of IWD 2024, #InspireInclusion, and reflects the bank’s commitment to driving equality, diversity, and inclusion across industries.
Mrs. Somefun stated, “As a bank dedicated to promoting economic empowerment and gender equality, we are proud to collaborate with SkillPaddy on this initiative to train and empower 1,000 female software engineers. Through this program, we not only invest in the future of these talented women but also foster innovation and diversity within the tech industry. By providing access to skills training and mentorship, our aim is to unlock opportunities and create a more inclusive and prosperous digital economy for all.”
In accordance with the Bank’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, it has collaborated with AltSchool Africa, a software training provider, to support female students in acquiring specialized software development skills. International Women’s Day (IWD) is observed worldwide to honor the achievements of women in social, economic, cultural, and political spheres, as well as to promote gender equality. The theme for this year, #InspireInclusion, highlights the significance of fostering inclusive environments where every individual, irrespective of gender, is appreciated, respected, and included.
